The Storkow Castle is a castle in the small town Storkow in the Oder-Spree district of Brandenburg.

History

The lowland castle is expected during the German occupation - have been built in the middle of the 12th century - probably in place of a Slavic swamp castle. As a builder comes Margrave Conrad I considered. Documented the castle was first mentioned in 1209.

Until 1382, the Lords of Strehla sat at the castle. They were followed by inheritance, the Lords of Bieberstein. 1518 pledged Ulrich von Bieberstein the castle to the Bishop of Lebus, Dietrich von Bülow. The castle was expanded into a bishop's residence.

1538 at the castle Stefan Meiss, a friend and teammate of Hans Kohlhase, tortured to death. Died in 1555 at the castle of the last Catholic Bishop of Lebus, John VIII Horne Castle ( 1551-1555 ). 1556 came to the Margrave John I of Brandenburg castle and dominion - Kuestrin. After his death, the castle and lordship fell finally into the possession of the Electors of Brandenburg.

In the Thirty Years ' War the castle was heavily damaged in 1627. The village was rebuilt as a small Renaissance castle. Further damage was caused by a fire in 1775.

1910 bought by the architect Johann Emil Schaudt the system and let them in the romantic historical style remodel. Between 1934 and 1945, the plant was used as Jugendburg of the Hitler Youth. From 1945 to 1978, the local government were housed in the facility 's services.

In 1978 the plant was destroyed by fire. The buildings were gradually rebuilt between 2000 and 2009. The rededication of the castle was Pentecost 2009 as part of the 800th anniversary of the city Storkow.

Since May 2009 there is the network for all visitor centers of the Brandenburg large protected areas associated Visitors Information Centre (MIC ) of the Natural Park of Dahme- Heideseen at the castle. In addition to the permanent exhibition, man and nature - a journey through time, nature and the environment in the natural park exhibitions are offered.

The Grade II listed castle Storkow belongs together with the castles in Beeskow and Friedland NL linking Strele - castles, with the cultural activities in the Oder-Spree district should be promoted.
