History

Mid-90s heard Mikael Åkerfeldt the first time by Steven Wilson. Åkerfeldt friend Jonas Renkse played him at that time Porcupine Tree The Sky Moves Sideways albums and Signify before and Åkerfeldt was a big fan of this band. Years later Wilson Åkerfeldt wrote an e- mail message when a French journalist had given him the Opeth album Still Life. The two met in London and Åkerfeldt asked Wilson to produce the next Opeth album. Already at this meeting they also talked about a beyond musical collaboration.

Wilson produced the fifth album Opeth Blackwater Park and the two follow-up albums Deliverance and Damnation. He also mixed the Heritage published in 2011. 2005 Åkerfeldt took over in the eighth studio album Porcupine Trees, Deadwing, guest parts on vocals and guitar.

Both decided on in March 2010 and on to work on a common project. Originally, Mike Portnoy, the former drummer of Dream Theater, take over the drum parts, later explained Åkerfeldt that Portnoy is no longer part of the project was, as there was no room for a set of drums were with the previous material. Wilson substantiated that only 15 - 20 % of the album contained drum parts and these would played by Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison. In September 2011, the album was completed, a publication but held back so that Steven Wilson could concentrate on publishing and promotion for his second solo album Grace for Drowning and Åkerfeldt on Opeth's tenth studio album, Heritage, both of which appeared in September 2011. May 4, 2012 Storm Corrosion was published in Germany. Included were a total of six songs in Wilson 's No Man's Land Studio in Hertfordshire, England.

Wilson Storm Corrosion

"I think both of us swam the idea for this kind of music around in my head, we knew that our bands they would not play, but we both understood each other very well in this regard. Because we have this common passion: very experimental, dark albums, almost orchestral in their scope. And we have long wanted to make such a plate. But it 's a long way from the metal there, and there is a long way from anything that Mikael has ever made, I think, including [ Opeth ] Damnation album. I think a lot of people thought, " Oh, it will certainly sound like Damnation". That it does not; also it it is far away. And from everything I've ever done, it is far away ... because what we did not want to do is, we band together for a progressive metal supergroup, even if it would have been easy - and it was partly also what we was expected. And, you know, maybe we're doing it at some point. But this time we thought " Let's just make this album ." Some people will love it, some do not, and that's OK, because in the end we did not do what was expected, and that's what we did. "

Wilson also told that Åkerfeldt took over most of the guitar work, while he himself concentrated on the Keyboard parts and the arrangement of the music. He said about the album, that it contained many orchestral pieces and " mellow, strange and disturbing " is. It will contain six tracks, some of which subject even in excess of 10 minutes of playing time. According to Wilson, there are no plans for a tour for the album, as it is too difficult to implement - one hand in time, due to the projects of both band members, but also because of the music itself. Also on the publication beyond plans there is not so far.
