Deliverance is the sixth studio album by the Swedish metal band Opeth. It appeared in 2002, Music for Nations.

Creation and publication

After the release of Blackwater Park Opeth toured North America and Europe. Then Mikael Åkerfeldt new, very different -like material began to write. Jonas Renkse Katatonia came up with the idea to publish the different pieces on two contrasting albums. Music for Nations could only be convinced, as the band had agreed to treat both albums as regards the terms of their record contract and the financial support by the record company as a single.

Deliverance and Damnation of the successor were simultaneously recorded in summer 2002. The band and Steven Wilson ( vocals, guitar, Mellotron ) also participated as guest musician, produced Deliverance, Andy Sneap mixed and mastered the album. Travis Smith was again responsible for the artwork. Sony Music put the album 2006 new, it also appeared several LP editions.

Style

Deliverance builds on its predecessor Blackwater Park. Death Metal is so mixed with progressive rock and metal influences; of passages with aggressive drums, heavy riffs and guttural vocals over catchy solos and playful drawers with psychedelic flair towards sensitive acoustic passages with clean vocals cover Opeth again its entire stylistic range within the individual - long and complex - from pieces. The dynamic changes take place either by surprising breaks or smooth transitions.

Reception

Also this album was well received by the press again. Henning Mangold of the Baby Blue Pages is Deliverance although sometimes a little calculating and cold, yet he can " escape the attraction of this album impossible." Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic called the album as a " tremendous vision of an incredible band" and Rouven thorn of powermetal.de considers it " a milestone [ ... ], which proves not only to a new one that every album of Sweden is completely self- but perhaps also represents one of the best musical connections between the seventies and the metallic twenty-first century.
