My Arms, Your Hearse is the third studio album by the Swedish metal band Opeth. It appeared in 1998 with Candlelight Records.

Creation and publication

After the release of Morningrise Opeth toured with Cradle of Filth in Europe. Then the bassist Johan DeFarfalla was released and drummer Anders Nordin got out to live in Brazil. For the third album Mikael Åkerfeldt himself took over the bass, the new drummer, Martin Lopez. My Arms, Your Hearse by the lyrical concept was born from the musical compositions, was recorded in summer 1997 at Studio Fredman. Fredrik Nordström was co-produced and played the Hammond organ one. The album was mastered by Göran Finnberg at The Mastering Room. My Arms, Your Hearse is named after a passage of text of the play " Drip Drip " by Comus ' debut album.

Following the publication was Lopez's friend Martin Mendez new bassist, Opeth entered few times in the UK and signed a record deal with Peaceville Records. Candlelight Records put My Arms, Your Hearse first time in 2000, each with a Celtic Frost and Iron Maiden Cover New, in 2003, appeared in a limited edition in a tin can. There were also various LP editions.

Style

Opeth continue to develop in comparison to the debut and Morningrise and place with My Arms, Your Hearse before their first concept album. The death metal roots are clearly visible, but it can also be seen influences from progressive rock. It thus find themselves hard riffs, double bass passages and guttural vocals, but also harmonious solos, quiet and acoustic passages, catchy melodies and bright vocals. The varied and evocative pieces and their lyrics flow smoothly into one. The lyrical concept tells the story of a deceased person must process as mind the painful farewell to his wife and his eternal loneliness.

Reception

The album was well received by the press. Frank Stoever from Rock Hard it is independent and attested the band in 1998, great potential. Steve Huey of Allmusic judges, the album varying textures and moods so that the listener does not lose interest in the long pieces. Captain Chaos of Vampster sums up: " More creativity, sincerity, visionary songwriting, denser arrangements have OPETH never delivered, never gave them to listen to an album that was self-contained and that has given so much to the listener.
