Stormbringer (role-playing game)

In Stormbringer (English Stormbringer ) is a pen -and- paper role-playing game, which translated from the English in 1989 and lauric- Verlag ( Citadel Germany ) was issued. The name of the game derives from the magic sword from the the main character of the novel series Elric of Melniboné, written by Michael Moorcock leads. The role-play was conceived by the author of numerous publications and role-playing game aids Ken St. Andre and Lynn Willis and published in 1981 by the publishing company Chaosium.

Rule Overview

The rules for Stormbringer largely based on a simplified form of RuneQuest, with a highly customized magic system that all magic - as described in the Elric novels - unwinds through the evocation of various beings. These include: elemental spirits (based on the classical four elements ), demons and animal Kings ( a ghost -like agents, or a personalized essence of his species ).

Since these creatures are given only very rudimentary, the system requests the GM from a lot of autonomy and responsibility. Later English versions have been revised to the magic system, simplifies the handling for the gamemaster and increases the possibilities of spells for players. The system is continuously and individual characteristics (skills and sometimes attributes) increase at random.

Game world

The background for Stormbringer form the boys kingdoms, as described in the novels of Michael Moorcock in the cycle to Elric of Melniboné and is dominated by the constant struggle between the forces of order and chaos. This is the background of world Stormbringer differs significantly from other fantasy worlds in which mostly the forces of good and evil face, in principle, play no role in the background of Stormbringer.
