Stoyan Zaimov

Stoyan Stoyanov Zaimow ( Stoyan Stoyanov also Zaimov written; Bulgarian Стоян Стоянов Заимов; born August 12, 1853 in Chirpan, then Ottoman Empire, † September 9, 1932 in Pleven, Bulgaria ) was a Bulgarian revolutionary, freedom fighter, writer and director of the Bulgarian National Library.

Life

Zaimow was co-organizer and leader of the beaten down, April Uprising (1876 ). He was chief apostle (leader) of the insurgents in the III. revolutionary region of Vratsa. During the uprising Zaimow was captured and sentenced by the Ottoman authorities to death. The death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment after intervention by the great powers and Zaimow (now in Israel) imprisoned in the fortress Akra.

After the Treaty of San Stefano in 1878 Zaimow, like all prisoners of the April Uprising, released and he returned to the now liberated Bulgaria. In 1986, he founded the magazine " Училищен преглед " ( Engl. about: School Review) Between 1903 and 1908 Zaimow was Director of the Bulgarian National Library..
