Stoyko Stoykov

Stojko Stoykov Ivanov ( Ivanov also Stojko Stojkov written, Bulgarian Стойко Иванов Стойков; born October 26, 1912 in Sofia, Bulgaria; † December 9, 1969 ) was a Bulgarian linguist and the founder of Bulgarian dialectology.

Life

Stojko Stoykov is a graduate of Slavic Philology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski " (1935 ). After that he went to Prague, where he specialized in phonetics, dialectology and Slavic linguistics between 1937-1939. In 1939 he got his Ph.D. at Charles University in Prague awarded. He worked until 1942 as an assistant at the Institute for Bulgarian Language at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, between 1952 to 1969 as head of the Section for the Bulgarian dialectology with linguistic atlas and between 1958 to 1969 as deputy director of the same institute.

Stojko Stoykov also worked at the University of Sofia, as an assistant (1943 ), associate professor (1947 ) and professor ( 1950-1969 ). He was Dean of the Faculty of Modern Languages ​​(1953-1954, 1962-1966) and Vice- Rector of the same university ( 1958-1960 ). Stojko Stoykov was also chairman of the Commission for phonetics and phonology at the International Slavic Committee (1968-1969) and Secretary of the same Committee ( 1959-1964 ).

Scientific activity

Stojkows scientific work was in the areas of Bulgarian dialectology, phonetics and lexicology. He was the author of the fundamental and so far only book on " Bulgarian dialectology " (published in 1949, updated in 1962 and 1968, later editions 1993 and 2002 ). Other valuable contributions are the monographs " The Banat dialect " ( " Банатският говор " ) (1967) and " The lexicons of the Banat dialect " ( " Лексиката на банатския говор " ) (1968 ), and the comparative study of " The dialect in the village Twardiza ( Bulgaria) and in the village Twardiza (Moldova ) "( 1958). Of particular interest is his study of the " vernacular of the Sofia student " is ( " Софийският ученически говор. Принос към българската социална диалектология ", 1946). Stojko Stoykov was co-author and editor of the "Atlas of Bulgarian Dialects " ( " Български диалектен атлас ," in four volumes from 1964 to 1981 ).

He also published several studies that dealt with the literary works of writers and poets from the Bulgarian Revival period.
