Scomberomorus lineolatus

Scomberomorus lineolatus is a marine fish of the family of the mackerels and tunas. It is fished commercially and is also available as sport fish of importance.

Description

The first dorsal fin consists of 15 to 18 hard jets, the second dorsal fin from 15 to 19 soft rays. Behind are seven to ten Flössel. The anal fin consists of 17 to 22 soft rays, also behind seven to ten Flössel. The caudal fin is large and deeply divided. The pelvic fins are very small and consist of 20 to 24 soft rays. The base of the pectoral fin is slightly below the middle of the body.

The spindle-shaped body reaches a maximum length of 80 centimeters. The flanks are silvery shiny. Along the sidelines, many are horizontally arranged, irregular, dark stripes.

Distribution, habitat and biology

Scomberomorus lineolatus inhabits the continental shelf on the coast of India, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia and the northern Malay Archipelago. Little is known about the life of this fish. It is a predator that feeds mainly on small fish.
