Streblorrhiza speciosa (English common name: " Phillip Iceland Glory Pea " ) is an extinct species of plants counted in addition to the highly endangered taxa Hibiscus insularis and Elymus multiflorus kingianus to the three endemic plant taxa on the Phillip Island.

Streblorrhiza speciosa was the only way the monotypic genus Streblorrhiza within the legume family ( Fabaceae ). This species was discovered in 1804 by the Austrian plants illustrator Ferdinand Bauer ( 1760-1826 ) and 1833 described by Stephan Ladislaus Finite scientifically.

Description

Streblorrhiza speciosa was a climber. The shoot axis was bald. The smooth, evergreen, odd pinnate leaves composed of five to seven leaflets. The elliptical leaflets were 2.5 to 4 inches long and 1 to 2 inches wide. The stipules were broadly triangular.

The racemose inflorescence was laterally. The triangular bracts were 1 mm long and were dropped quickly. The cover sheets were tiny. The flower stalks were about 5 millimeters long. The zygomorphic flowers were fünfzählig double perianth. The cup was bell-shaped, the upper of the five calyx teeth were triangular, 1-2 mm long, ciliate. Extinction

1830 Streblorrhiza speciosa was extinct in the wild, after the English botanist Allan Cunningham gathered up the last copies. The causes of extinction were probably the overgrazing by feral pigs, goats and rabbits. Because of their attractive legumes this species was also seen in British greenhouses. Since the plant but could not keep in cultivation, all specimens were received until 1860. Today, only a few exist Herbarium Specimens, including two at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. 1980 An attempt was made to bring seeds from the conserved legume type copy of germination, this attempt was without success.
