Strophius

Strophius (Greek Στρόφιος, the Deft ), king of Phocis, is a figure from Greek mythology.

He was the son of Krisos and Antiphateia. His wife Anaxibia - a sister of his friend Agamemnon - gave birth to the children of Pylades and Astydameia. At his court and his nephew Orestes the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra grew up.

Before Aulis Agamemnon had once sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia to obtain favorable wind to Troy. When he returned ten years later from the Trojan War to his homeland, he was killed by his wife and her lover Aegisthus. To protect the young Orestes, the child was - depending on the version of Clytemnestra or by a nurse, at the instigation of his sister Electra - brought to Phocis, where he worked in friendship with Strophius ' son Pylades was growing up.

Pylades later married his cousin Elektra and named one of their sons also Strophius.
