Strußnigteich

BW

The Strußnigteich is one to 26 acre pond in the city of Feldkirchen in Carinthia and serves the carp breeding. It is privately owned and is not accessible

Description

The pond was probably built in the 18th century, when a wet surface was dammed. He is a maximum of 26 hectares and an average of 1.7 m deep. The greatest depth is 7.8 m. In the pond near the carp come before the tench, pike, perch, crucian carp, perch, grass and silver carp. In the early 1990s, the pseudo harlequin barb ( Pseudorasbora parva ) has been introduced from the Danube Delta.

The hills around the lake are surrounded by cropland, next to fields and meadows and spruce monocultures. On the eastern edge of the pond there is an extensive reeds.

Live a myriad of small animals, such as dragonflies and butterflies at the edges. At breeding birds for Carinthia rare species Tufted, Pochard, Lapwing and Ringed Plover are mentioned. Particular importance is attached to the pond as a resting place for migratory birds, because such habitats are rare in Central Carinthia.
