Stuart Townsend

Peter Stuart Townsend ( * December 15 1972 in Howth, County Dublin) is an Irish actor, film director, film producer and screenwriter.

Life and career

Stuart Townsend is the son of Peter, a professional golfer, and Lorna Townsend. Townsend studied acting at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin.

Became famous for Townsend in the late 1990s with the success of British film Shooting Fish. Townsend was originally cast in the role of Aragorn in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, a film adaptation of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. After test recordings, the role has been reshuffled. The official reason given was that the producers Townsend thought was too young to embody the role believable. The role of Aragorn was taken over by the U.S. castmates Viggo Mortensen in the short term. 2007 Townsend was with the film Battle in Seattle his debut as a film director, screenwriter and film producer.

Townsend lived from 2001 to 2009 with his fellow actress Charlize Theron together. After nine years relationship Theron separated in 2009 during the Christmas holidays in Mexico in all friendship of Townsend. The two played together in 24 Hours afraid Head in the Clouds and Battle in Seattle.
