Stuiver

Stüber (abbreviation:. STBR ) is the name for small penny coins that were in northwest Germany (ie especially in the territories of present-day North Rhine -Westphalia) dominated from about the late 15th century to the early 19th century.

The value of the coin was 4 pennies or 2 Germans and corresponded therefore nominally a Groten or an English groat. These were to Restrikes an originally Dutch coin, the Stuever or Stuiver (up to 1815). This was in turn an imitation of medieval penny. 20 Stuiver were a florin, and so in Holland, the 5- cent piece is occasionally still referred to as Stuiver.

The name " Stuiver " is derived from the Dutch stuiven (sparks " scurry " ), since early Flemish Stuivern " sparking flints of the chain of the Golden Fleece " were shown.

The name was also Stüber unit as part of the newly introduced 1924 Austrian Schillings in conversation, but ultimately the term dime was chosen.
