Stüsslingen, in the local dialect Stüüslige [ ʃdy: sligə ], is a municipality in the district of Gösgen the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Stüsslingen is located on 465 m above sea level. M., 7 km northeast of the town of Olten (air line). The former stream line the village extends on both sides of Stüsslinger Bach in a small valley north of the Aare valley at the foot of the Jurasüdfuss Gugen, Niederamt in Solothurn.

Population

With 1017 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Stüsslingen one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 96.6 % are German, 0.6 % Italian-speaking and 0.5 % speak French (as of 2000). The population of Stüsslingen amounted in 1850 to 649 residents in 1900 to 565 inhabitants. Economy

Stüsslingen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. The water power of the village Bach was formerly used for the operation of mills and sawmills. Traffic

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1224 under the name Stüzelingen. Later appeared the names Stuselingen ( 1266 ) and Stüslingen ( 1288). The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Stiuzzilo and thus means for the people of Stiuzzilo.

Since the Middle Ages Stüsslingen was part of the rule Gösgen, which was a Habsburg fief. In the wake of the conquest of the Aargau and Solothurn by the Bern also Stüsslingen was affected. The village, which was under the Falk Steinem since the late 14th century came, in 1458 with the reign Gösgen by purchase of Solothurn and the new Bailiwick Gösgen and the Court Lostorf been assigned. Attractions

The church standing in the village came originally from a church dating from around the year 1000. The interior holds a baroque statue of the Madonna and an altarpiece parts of the former church.
