Stužica

Stužica is a National Nature Reserve in Slovakia, a Carpathian beech primeval forest in the deep valley of the brook Stužická rieka the hills Bukovské Hills. It is located in the far north-eastern Slovakia, southwestern point of the three countries Slovakia, Poland and the Ukraine (mountain Kremenec ) near the village of Nová Sedlica and is part of the National Park Poloniny.

The area was in 1908 under protection. The National Nature Reserve was established in 1965 and the boundaries for the last time in 1993 updated to the nature reserve is 761.49 hectares today. Reason for the protection under the strictest fifth stage is the presence of original beech and fir forests and the variety of vegetation zones within 620-1208 m nm The Mountain Meadows, the poloniny, are under protection.

Since 2007 Stužica with three other Slovak and Ukrainian six nature reserves part of the UNESCO World Heritage " Beech Forests in the Carpathians " (now Beech Forests in the Carpathians and ancient beech forests in Germany ).
