Su-ao, Yilan

Su'ao (Chinese苏澳 镇, Pinyin Sū'ào Zhen, Tongyong Pinyin Su -ao Jhen, W.-G. Su -ao Chen, Peh - oē - jī So · Ò ) is a port city on the Pacific coast in the district Yilan in the northeast of the Republic of China on Taiwan. It has the status of a township (镇, zhen ).

Su'ao lies about 20 km south of Yilan county town on the southern edge of the Lanyang level, which represents the central part of Yilan County. It is the terminus of Highway 5, which connects through Yilan in the northwest to Taipei. South of Su'ao the central mountains of Taiwan extends directly to the sea. Along the cliff leads the provincial road 9 ( of Su'ao - Hualian Highway ) to Hualian. Su'ao is located on the east coast along the running rail route Taipei - Hualian.

The commercial and naval port of the city is the most important in Yilan County and one of the largest in eastern Taiwan. Adjacent there is a significant fishing port in Nanfang'ao district.

Tourist significant is the cold mineral source (苏澳 冷泉Su'ao Cold Spring ) with a bathhouse in the center.
