The city is located in Lamb County, on U.S. Highway 84, between Littlefield and Muleshoe.

History

The land of the present town of Sudan was in 1892 the County as a school country. In 1916 it was sold to Wilson and Furneaux. The actual urban development began 1917/1918 with the construction of a hotel and the uptake of services by Santa Fe Railroad, which completed it in 1913, a line from Lubbock to Texico, New Mexico. PE Boesen, the manager and postal workers from Santa Fe Railroad on the spot struck, in 1918 the name of Sudan for the place before. 1923 Bank was opened in 1925 and got the place accorded city status, as the mark of 600 inhabitants was reached. The first granary was built in 1925 and the same year the local newspaper " Sudan News" started its work.
