Sueng

The Sueng ( in Thai ซึง ) is a loud -like plucked instrument from northern Thailand.

The body is made ​​of teak or other hardwood. The sound is produced by plucking the two metal or brass strings with a plectrum made ​​of animal horn. The Sueng is typically used as a solo instrument, but are occasionally Sueng ensembles heard. In the past, Sueng was used as an accompanying instrument for vocal young men while they were looking for girls. Today the Sueng forms an accompaniment to festivals such as Loi Krathong, and in rituals of Bai Sai and funerals.
