Sugar River (New Hampshire)

The Sugar River is a left tributary of the Connecticut River in the U.S. state of New Hampshire.

The Sugar River is the drainage of the dammed Lake Sunapee. It flows in a westerly direction Sunapee, Newport and Claremont, before flowing towards Ascutney in the Connecticut River. The Sugar River has a length of 43 km and drains an area of 704 km ². The South Branch Sugar River flows into Newport in the Sugar River, the North Branch Sugar River a little further down the river between Newport and North Newport.

The slope and the water power of the Sugar River were previously exploited by mills. There are several hydroelectric stations on the river.
