Suhopolje

The village Suhopolje located in Croatia, in the central part of Virovitica - Podravina, 11 kilometers east of Virovitica. Suhopolje is the center of community Suhopolje that extends to 166.70 km ². The municipality has 6,683 inhabitants ( 2011 census ) living in 23 villages.

The name Suhopolje appears for the first time. Eight years later, in 1763, in 1771, the village in Terezovac (Hungarian Tersovac ) was renamed after the Empress Maria Theresa. Today we Suhopolje again. Suhopolje was settled in the 18th century of 22 Croatian and 29 German families.

Suhopolje is an important economic and cultural center for the surrounding villages. The main industry is agriculture. The population is also concerned with livestock, crafts and entrepreneurship.

In Suhopolje is the Church of St. Teresa of Avila. It was built from 1807 to 1816 in the classical style. The park is the Castle of the Counts Janković - besan. It was built in the mid 18th century, around the same time as the village.
