Sulphonal is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of sulfones. Sulphonal was produced in 1888 by Eugen Baumann and later introduced by Alfred Kast as a soporific. Through the development of the Sulfonale barbiturates were replaced.
Production and representation
Sulphonal is prepared from acetone and ethanethiol in the presence of hydrochloric acid and subsequent oxidation.
