Sulfonyl

Sulfonyl group in the organic chemistry, the description of the functional group - SO2 -. This is also referred to as a sulfone group. The class of sulfonyl -bearing chemical compounds is referred to as sulfones.

Sulfonyl among organic derivatives of oxo acids of sulfur, in which the two organic radicals are bonded directly to the sulfur atom. The sulfonyl group can also occur as an unstable free radical.

Examples of sulfonyl

  • Methylsulfonylmethane, dimethyl sulfone: CH3 - SO2 - CH3
  • Ethylsulfonylmethan, ethylmethylsulfone: CH3 -CH2- SO2 - CH3
  • Ethenylsulfonylethen, divinyl sulfone: CH2 = CH- CH = CH2 SO2

Sulfurylverbindungen

In conjunction with halogens or amide group is also referred to as a sulfuryl group, for example:

  • Sulfuryl chloride: Cl - SO2 -Cl
  • Sulfuryldiamid: ( sulfamide ) NH2 - SO2 - NH2
