Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (Arabic: سلطان بن سلمان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود, DMG Sultan bin Salman bin ʿ Abd al - ʿ Aziz Al Sa ʿ ūd; * June 27, 1956 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) is a Saudi nobleman and nephew by Fahd ibn Abd al - Aziz. He he carries the title of " Prince of Saudi Arabia ." He is the first and only astronaut of his country, was the first Muslim in space and the youngest participant of a space shuttle mission.

Life

He was born in 1956 as the son of Salman ibn Abd al - Aziz. After attending primary and secondary schools in Riyadh Al Saud sent his parents to the United States. At the University of Denver in Colorado he studied communication sciences and earned a bachelor. Later he was still a master of Syracuse University in the U.S. East Coast, where he studied social and political science at the Maxwell School.

Initially, he worked for the Ministry of Information of his country and in 1984 was responsible for the Saudi Arabian Information Committee of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

As part of an international crew, which also included American and French astronauts flew Al Saud on 17 June 1985 as the first Arab in space. On mission STS - 51G with the U.S. space shuttle Discovery, he represented the Arab Satellite Communications Organization ( ARABSAT ). After seven days ended the mission.

Later Al Saud pilot was on scheduled air services and director of the Saudi Arabian Office for commercial television.
