Sun, moon, and Thalia ( Original Neapolitan: Sole, Luna, e Talia ) is a fairy tale ( Aath 410). It is in Giambattista Basile's collection Pentamerone as fifth story of the fifth day (V, 5).

A gentleman banished all flax from his house, it was said, his daughter Thalia threatened danger of a flat fiber. The adolescent sees a spinning Old walk past the window and stroking curious the thread. Thalia probably means " The Flowering ", see Thalia ( Muse) or Thalia ( Charis ). According to Rudolf Schenda this is the oldest version of the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty in the Forest ( Aath 410), but applied already in early French romance of chivalry from Perceforest, which was translated into Italian in 1558. The tale was Charles Perrault La Belle au Bois Dormant as Sleeping Beauty - known in Grimm's Fairy Tales - albeit in Biedermeier smoothed form. Basile's fairy tale has been told in the 19th and 20th centuries in Italy. The ancient history of Astyages, who set before his own son as food to his doctor, had been often rumored in the 16th century.
