Sunmudo

Bulmudo ( Kor. 불무도, often written Bool Moo Do ), also Seonmudo ( Kor. 선무도, often Sunmudo or Sonmudo ) is a rare, almost unknown temple martial art from Korea, the Seon (Chan / Zen) Buddhist monks in the temple Golgulsa and some other temples is exercised. Bulmudo is called a direct descendant of the Shaolin Quánfǎ from China. Bul represents Buddha, Mu for military and Do for displacement.

History

Bulmudo probably came during the period of the Three Kingdoms (372 AD) in Korea and has been carefully preserved within the Buddhist community. Today it is open to the monks whether they participate in the daily training. Each training session lasts three hours and begins in the morning at eight clock. There are no graduations, is trained in the monk's clothing. After warm-up followed by breathing and meditation exercises. After basic techniques and fighting to be practiced. The techniques are similar to the system of the praying mantis and the Crane style. The system contains no weapons.

Bulmudo today

One of the few martial arts centers in the Bulmudo is now the Chung Nyun Ahm, a temple complex in southern Korea which was founded in 678 AD. The system can only be reached after an arduous hike, secreted live in the monks and are not interested in the public.
