Supermarine S.6

The Supermarine S.6 was a British seaplane, which was developed to participate in the Schneider Trophy.

History and construction

In the Supermarine S.6 it was a single-seater with two floats, which were built in two copies by the designer Reginald Joseph Mitchell of the company Supermarine.

The competition took place on 6 and 7 September 1926 in Calshot Spit, Great Britain, instead. The one S.6 was disqualified before the race, with the other won Flight Lieutenant HRD Henry Waghorn with an average speed of 528.88 km / h the first place.

On September 12, 1929, the pilot flew Orlebar with the winner aircraft 575.7 km / h, the then world record for seaplanes.

For the Schneider Trophy in 1931 Mitchell revised the first S.6 and sat there a greater float. This version was called S.6A. At the same time he built the Super S.6B, which eventually was used.
