SuperVia is the name of a Brazilian railway company, which received a consortium on 1 November 1998, the license ( 25 years old) for the operation of passenger trains in the metropolitan area of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Supervia conveyed today about 9 million passengers in the month, representing about 450,000 Pass through per day. The lines have 89 stations, spread over 11 districts of the Greater Region of Rio de Janeiro. There is evidence that this capacity will be expanded in the coming years. Also, there are areas where buses are used.

History

Still in 1894, the then state system of passenger trains transported one million people in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. However, the system was getting worse maintained and the lobby of the private bus operators took over a large number of passengers in transportation. In this crisis situation, there were a number of accidents (eg by ailing material) and the punctuality and reliability of lines always took off more. The situation with the result that in 1996 only 145,000 Pass through used the transport of Vorortzuglinien. This was the absolute low point in public transport in Rio de Janeiro.

The operation of formerly federal sovereignty was transferred to the state through political action. Various Investments, also with money from the World Bank, have been made to restore the routes. In 1998, the operation of the routes was advertised for privatization and awarded in an auction to the consortium SuperVia for U.S. $ 280 million. Of these, 30 million were paid to the state and invested 250 million for the railway network. Since then SuperVia received no government grants more. The railway company carries itself

The improvement of the traffic situation by the direct investment led to a strong increase of transported passengers on all routes. Suburban trains were thus again a great importance in the transport of the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro. Currently, once again presented a delays and accidents. The fares provide a race with the inflated prices of the bus operators. Complaints of passengers now mainly affect the overfull trains during rush hours, the inflated fares and the delays that occur regularly.
