Supraspinous ligament

The supraspinal ligament ( " spinous Band" ) is a strong band of taut collagen connective tissue that connects the spinous processes of the seventh cervical vertebra to the sacrum. It provides, in addition to the vertebral joints, discs and other spinal ligaments ( ligamentum flavum, anterior longitudinal ligament, posterior longitudinal ligament, interspinous ligament, ligamentum intertransversarium ), the mechanical stability of the spine ago.

The superficial collagen fibers extend over three to four vertebrae, the lowest run only between two adjacent vertebrae. In the neck region, the supraspinal ligament sets into the neckband ( nuchal ligament ) away.
