Surgeon's knot

When the surgeon node (more precisely: Ligaturknoten ) is a modification of the square knot.

Application

The name " surgeon's knot " comes from medicine, where this node type in surgery for closing a wound with sutures ( surgical suture material, eg, catgut ) serves. The advantage of using in surgery lies in the fact that the train can be maintained constant at the suture during tying of the knot. Also found this node application in sport fishing.

Modifications

When fishing, the node is used with the Flechtteil of the leader, or to create a loop in the form of a ' multiple overhand knot " ( double plugged Overhand ) for connecting a monofilament ( single thread ) tippet.

Tie

First, a Double overhand knot is tied. By double looping the filaments creates enough friction so that the tension of the yarn, and thus the distance between the wound edges can be well controlled. Thus, the node maintains permanent and is finished with a simple overhand knot, which is tied in opposite directions as the square knot. If the node is attached properly, the filaments at both sides are in parallel from the node. The node does not hold true when the second overhand knot is the same as the first subject. It then creates a kind of " old wives ' node '.
