The road from Surigao is a natural waterway between the islands of Mindanao and Leyte in the Philippines and connects the Mindanaosee with the Gulf of Leyte.

The road from Surigao starts from the Mindanaosee coming between belonging to the province of Southern Leyte island Panaon and the northern tip of Surigao del Norte in the north- east of the island of Mindanao. It winds from there to the north and runs along the island of Leyte on one side and the province of Dinagat Islands on the other side to ultimately into the Gulf of Leyte.

The waterway is regularly crossed by ferries that transport goods and people between Visayas and Mindanao. The main connection points of these ferry routes are Liloan in the province of Southern Leyte and Surigao City in Surigao del Norte.

History

In 1521 Ferdinand Magellan's fleet took the road from Surigao to explore all of the remaining Philippine archipelago later after a short stay on the island Homonhon, first the island of Mindanao and.

On October 25, 1944, the Battle of Surigao Strait was held in the waters. She was one of several battles that went down together under the name of sea and air battle of Leyte Gulf as the greatest naval battle of all time in the history.
