Suriname Olympic Committee

The Surinaams Olympic Comité (SOC ) is the umbrella organization of sport organizations in Suriname. The SOC was established in 1959 and recognized in the same year by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was also in 1959 a member of the Pan American Sports Organization. Since 2014 Guno van der Jagt the President of the SOC. It has its headquarters in Paramaribo at the Letitia Vriesdelaan.

History

With Siegfried Esajas traveled in 1960 for the first time a Surinamese athletes for the SOC to the Olympic Games in Rome.

The only previous Olympic medals for the SOC was Anthony Nesty. Other well-known athletes who participated for the SOC in the Olympic Games, were Letitia Vriesde and Roy Bottse.

Successful athletes were Suriname at the Pan American Games with so far ( February 2014 ) won a total of eleven medals.
