Surlej
Surlej ( [ suɾlɛj ]? / I, COMPUTERS TO " on the lake ") is a district of the Upper Engadine Silvaplana municipality in the canton of Grisons.
Location
Surlej is located south of the Inn between Lej da Silvaplana and Champfèr whose shorelines are undeveloped. The settlement is about 2 km from the town center.
Population and infrastructure
The 170 permanent residents since the 14th century documented testified settlement are bilingual German - Romansh. The particularly intense in Surlej second homes has also brought many Italian speakers in the village.
Main occupation of the population is tourism. From Surlej is accessed via cable car in the Corvatsch.
From 1757 there was the St. Nicholas Chapel in the village until canceled in 1955. This had been repeatedly drawn by flooding the Ova da Surlej ( Surlejerbach ) affected as more buildings. Nearest church is the Reformed Church in the village of Silvaplana nowadays.
