Sustainable city

With eco-city (also eco-city, eco-city ) are designated settlements and cities, which are wholly or mainly committed to the principles of ecologically sustainable management.

Principle

As examples of the ecological principles are:

• Electrical energy from renewables
• Generation of heat without combustion processes
• Of water from rain water, water recycling
• Separate water circulation systems for drinking water and industrial water
• Waste prevention and recycling
• Energy-saving construction methods (Passive House, Low Energy House )
• Workplaces and work in emissions possible
• Intra -urban transport emission free ( no internal combustion engines )

Dissemination

There are no large settlement that satisfies all of these requirements, but probably the first partial solutions in model settlements or subsequently converted villages. However, the plans for eco-cities, Masdar in Abu Dhabi ( United Arab Emirates) and the set project Shanghai Dongtan (China ) come close to the ideal.
