Suvi-Anne Siimes

Sini Maaria Suvi -Anne Siimes ( born June 1, 1963 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish politician of the left-wing alliance.

Befor Siimes went into politics, she had brief teaching positions at the University of Helsinki and at the Kauppakorkeakoulu. She planned to work as a scientist or researcher in economics. Her political career began as a local politician in the commune Pohja in Southern Finland. In 1995 she became deputy party leader, in 1998 chairman of the Left Alliance. A year later, she was also first elected to the Finnish parliament. 1998/99 she was Minister of Culture in the Cabinet Lipponen I.

In 2006, she appeared as an active party leader from the party because they arrive with the course of the party, former so-called Taistoanern, orthodox pro-Soviet hardliners in the previous SKDL, the possibility to voting lists the Left Alliance, did not agree. She stopped then until 2007 a ​​member of the Finnish parliament, but then pulled back out of politics, as it was their own opinion, not been able to transform the Left Alliance in a modern European Left Party.

In the European elections in 2009, she supported Risto Penttilä, a candidate of the National Coalition Party.
