SV Sodingen

The Sports Club of 1912 Sodingen is a football club based in Herne, who played first-class in the 1950s. The club colors are green and white. Since 2007, the team plays in the national league siebtklassigen Westphalia 3

Formation

The club was founded on 14 September 1912 in the mining town Sodingen, which was incorporated in 1928 to Herne. He was especially in the 1950s (such as the SpVgg Erkenschwick, Sportfreunde Katernberg or SpVgg Herten ) to be not suffered to the miners associations, which were said at reputierlichen DFB particularly well. The stadium Glück-Auf with 30,000 seats was built in 1928 on the site of the Zeche Mont Cenis and 1975 demolished.

The "great time "

The SV Sodingen played for years only in minor leagues until he ascended several times in a row after the Second World War, so that he in the 2nd League West and in 1952 played in the Oberliga West in 1950. This is reminiscent of the former Schalke rise development also contributed to the fact that the club was extremely popular not only in the Ruhr area, such as the fact that here was preparing a "David" to reach for the stars. Virtually all the players worked at the Zeche Mont Cenis and invariably came from the surrounding area. The competition to the 'bourgeois' local rivals Westfalia Herne nurtured the image of " Sodinger Underdog " - and at least in the 1950s, this actually had the lead. The team played an uncompromising Kick and Rush style, coupled with unconditional dedication of all stakeholders, thereby possessed quite technical qualities, which should have prompted the national coach Sepp Herberger to the statement Sodingen was " the only German team that plays English ".

At the end of the season in 1954/55 the charges of coach Louis Tretter occupied the second place in the Oberliga West and thus qualified for the finals of the German Cup, where she worked the SSV Reutlingen 05 defeated in a playoff game 3-0 and then in the group matches on the 1st FC Kaiserslautern, Hamburger SV and the two-time German champions Viktoria 89 Berlin met.

The results of these Games:

  • Against Kaiserslautern 2:2 and 2:2
  • Against Hamburg 0:1 and 1:1
  • Against Berlin 5:1 and 3:2

In particular, the home game against with all their " Berner World Champions " antretenden Kaiserslautern on May 22, 1955 shows how strong the support for this neighborhood club was - even if Sodingen was occasionally confused by local residents with Solingen and still is -: because of the expected rush of visitors the home game was moved to Schalke Glückaufkampfbahn where it already hours before the game came in chaos because about 80,000 people crowded into the only 40,000 seats stadium bidding. At the end there were about 55,000 who had intake found, and the game had to be interrupted several times because the crowds stood ten feet away on the field.

The kicker then wrote: "Today we saw one of the most exciting and most beautiful games for a long time, worthy of a final. Without Fritz Walters Game Genie Kaiserslautern would have been overwhelmed by the floods of offensive Westfalenelf. " After finishing the round Sodingen ( 9:3 ) and HSV ( 8:4 ) was 7-5 points behind the first FCK become respectable third in the group. The following season the SV Sodingen, who also had several national players in its ranks reached, again a single-digit table space. 1956/57, we escaped relegation only slightly: for the illegal cash payments to players, the SV Sodingen six points were deducted.
