Svandís Svavarsdóttir

Svandis Svavarsdóttir ( born August 24, 1964 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician ( Left-Green Movement). She is a Member of the Icelandic Parliament and Minister of the Environment.

Life

Svandis Svavarsdóttir studied linguistics, particularly the Icelandic language at the University of Iceland. Afterwards she worked as a teacher and professor.

In the years 2005-2006, she was General Secretary of the Party Left-Green Movement. From 2006 to 2009 she was a member of the municipal council of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik.

Since 2009 she is a Member of the Icelandic Althing Parliament for the constituency of Reykjavík South. From 10 May 2009 to 23 May 2013, it was environment minister in the Government of Iceland Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir II Her successor as Minister of the Environment is Sigurdur Ingi Jóhannsson of the Progress Party.
