Svatava

Confluence with the Eger in Sokolov

The Zwota, in Bohemia Zwodau, also Zwotau ( Czech Svatava ) is a left tributary of Eger in Germany and the Czech Republic.

Course

The river rises in the ridge region of the Saxonian Vogtland between Schoeneck and Kottenheide as Wolf creek. The 4 km long wolf creek flows south to Zwotental where it receives several small streams and unites with them to Zwota.

The Valley of Zwota then extends in an easterly direction between the Wolf Mountain ( 771 m ) in the north and the High fire. Along the river extend the places Oberzwota, Zechenbach, Zwota and blades valley where the Brunndöbra flows. Below the confluence of the henceforth flowing to South East Water is called Zwodau or Zwotau and forms for a mile the border between Saxony and the Czech Republic before it flows in a deep valley through the Bohemian Erzgebirge. Along the Zwodau is the town of Kraslice, afterwards the run goes through the Annatal to Anenské UDOLI and in several river bends over Hory, Oloví, Hřebeny and Luh in the lignite mining area of the Sokolov Basin. Above Hřebeny is the castle Hartberg. This is the only castle on the course of Zwodau. In the lower reaches of the Zwodau are the villages Davidov and Svatava. After 41 km, the Svatava opens in Sokolov in the Eger.
