Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson

Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson ( born July 4, 1924 in Grafardalur on Borgarfjorður; † 23 December 1993) was a priest of neo-paganism. He played a decisive role for government recognition of Asatru as a legitimate religion in Iceland in 1973 and was there until 1993, the first high - Gode ( Allsherjargóði ). In addition, he was editor and poet of Rímur.

Sveinbjörn practiced throughout his life a decisive influence on the modern Ásatrú movement and pagan circles that reached beyond the borders of his country up to the European continent and in the USA.

In addition to its concentrated religious activities, he was also politically active part in the protests against the deployment of nuclear weapons in Iceland by NATO.
