Svetlana Zakharova (dancer)

Svetlana Zakharova Yuryevna (Russian Светлана Юрьевна Захарова, Svetlana Zakharova usually transcribed; born June 10, 1979 in Lutsk ) is a Russian ballet dancer. It applies in addition to Sylvie Guillem and Diana Vishneva as one of the best known and highest paid dancers of today.

Zakharova started with six years to take lessons in folk dance. At age ten, she began her ballet training at the Kiev Choreographic School.

After winning in 1995 the 2nd prize at the International Competition for Young Dancers of St. Petersburg, she was admitted to the graduate class of the Vaganova Academy of St. Petersburg. Even as a student she danced solo roles in the ballet of the Mariinsky Theatre.

In June 1996 she was admitted after her graduation in the Mariinsky Ballet. The following year she was appointed to the first soloist. In 2003, Zakharova to the already long outstanding offer of the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and became a principal dancer.

Sacharowas repertoire includes almost all great works of classical and modern ballet history. It is particularly known for their agility, which often brings about comparisons with athletes from the rhythmic gymnastics.

Private life

Svetlana Zakharova is married with Russian violinist Vadim Repin. In 2010 she withdrew something because she was pregnant. On 17 February 2011 they had a daughter, Anna.
