Swallow the Sun

Swallow the Sun is a Finnish melodic death doom metal band. Their music is melancholic / dark and has a strongly varying pace.

Band History

Swallow the Sun was founded in autumn 2000 by Juha Raivio. Soon Pasi Pasanen joined the band, because the two already knew each other from the band Plutionium Orange. In 2001, Markus Jämsen came as second guitarist Mikko Kotamäki added as a singer. Keyboardist Aleksi Munter and bassist Matti Honkonen completed the band. In autumn 2002 they wrote songs for the first demo, which was recorded in January 2003. The recordings took place in Sam 's Workshop with Sami Kokko, who was also responsible for the mix of the demo.

A few months later Swallow the Sun was taken at Firebox Records and began in July 2003 with the recording of their first album The Morning Never Came. 2005 They released their second album with Ghosts of Loss. The resulting decoupled Single Forgive Her ... still rose in the week of its release at # 4 of the Finnish charts. The album reached # 8

In mid-2006 they switched to the label Spinefarm Records, and went on a tour of Europe. On 16 February 2007 the third album with Hope. In the spring, a tour of Europe and appearances followed on several summer festivals. 2008 Swallow the Sun released the EP Plague of Butterflies, with whom she first reached number one in the Finnish Charts.

In spring 2009, Swallow the Sun toured North America. A few weeks later, in May 2009, Pasi Pasanen left due to lack of motivation by mutual agreement the band. For the upcoming performances and recordings to the next album, he was replaced by Kai Hahto.
