Swedish Rail Administration

Banverket was until 31 March 2010, the Swedish Board of Railway Engineering. Its headquarters was located in Borlänge.

The Swedish Rail Administration was formed in 1988 when the state railways were divided (SJ ). The Central Office took over responsibility for the development and maintenance of the railway infrastructure as well as for the control of railway traffic and road safety issues.

On 1 April 2010 these tasks were taken over by the newly established authority Trafikverket, which is also responsible for the construction and maintenance of roads.
