Swedish Swimming Federation

Svenska Simförbundet (short SSF, German "Swedish Swimming Federation " ) is the governing body of swimming sport in Sweden, based in Solna in the northwest of Stockholm. Divided into 18 districts, one of the association in 342 clubs over 108,000 members (as of 2009 ) that are active in the fields of Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Diving and Water Polo. In addition, the association organizes the education and training of beginners swimming, swimmers and coaches. His work was rewarded three times (1972, 1980 and 1999) with the award Årets Idrottsförbund ( ' Sports Association of the Year " ).

The association was founded on 23 March 1904 in Stockholm by representatives from twelve Swedish city associations, including the Association of Upsala Simsällskap of 1796, claims to be the oldest swimming club in the world. One of the founding fathers was Erik Bergvall, who from 1909 served not only the Svenska Simförbundet as secretary from 1904 to 1908 and as president for many years until 1932, but later also in the establishment of the World Swimming Federation FINA (1908 ) and the European Swimming Federation LEN ( 1927) involved. In addition to these associations Svenska Simförbundet works closely with the members of the Nordic Swimming Federation (NSF ) and is since 1904 one of the sports federations of the Swedish Sports Confederation Riksidrottsförbundet.
