Sweet Smoke

Sweet Smoke is a music group that was founded in Brooklyn in 1967 and lived in the early 1970s in Germany, and was supported by the sculptor Waldemar Kuhn. Their music is a mix of psychedelic rock and soul.

The founding members of the band were Andrew Dershin, Michael Paris, Victor Sacco, Jay Dorfman and Marvin Kaminovitz, Sacco was later replaced by Steve Rosenstein. Initially, they mainly played before a small audience in U.S. clubs. With its hippie image and the band name "Sweet Smoke " they could not prevail in the home. So they went to Europe in 1969 to 1970 in Germany and took their first album.

Sweet Smoke was primarily a live band and known for their long improvised pieces. So then there was her first album Just a Poke only from the two almost 16:30 minutes long pieces Baby Night and Silly Sally. The former is probably the most famous piece of the band, mainly because of the distinctive flute melody by Michael Paris. The second is known for a long minute drum solo by Dorfman, was played on the stereo effects (ping -pong effect ).

It is through their live performances, where the band was often supplemented by numerous other musicians, they became very popular. After their second album Darkness to Light 1973, which developed into the music towards the acoustic guitar, but the band began to fall apart; Paris and Rosenstein returned Sweet Smoke the back. After a final live album, the band broke up mid-70s. The members retreated to the civil life. Only in 1999 there was a one-off reunion of the former band members.
