Vistula

The Świętokrzyski Bridge ( Polish Most Świętokrzyski, dt Holy Cross Bridge ) is the first asymmetric cable bridge in Warsaw, built in the years 1998 to 2000. Makes you a remote extension of Świętokrzyska road and connects the central parts of the city of Warsaw on both Vistula River.

Description

The bridge is connected to the viaduct 479 feet long, has two lanes in each direction and two strips for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The construction of the bridge, suspended on a 90 meter high pylon is supported by 48 steel cables. The pylon is on the right-hand bank of the Vistula. The track support is additionally supported on two pillars in Weichselboden near the left-hand bank. Inside the northern pylon there is a service lift. Since the bridge deck is just above the level of the previous Vistula boulevards along the river was on the left-hand bank of the road laid in a double tunnel, in the southerly direction 930 feet long, in the north 889 feet long. As a result against traffic-free crossing on two levels obtained, but been to and departure from the left side of the Vistula road to the bridge at the same time impossible. On the ceiling of the tunnel, the Copernicus Science Centre was built later.

Construction

The construction was financed by the construction company ELEKTRIM who planned the establishment of a group of apartment buildings on the former port area. Financial difficulties led to the temporal extension of the construction of the houses, as well as the establishment of a direct connection to the Targowa street in the center of Praga district. On the left side leads the only access through the steep and narrow Tamka Street. The insufficient width of the bridge deck and the excessive width of the side strips are criticized.

More Vistula bridges

In the years 2000 to 2002 was yet another cable-stayed bridge in Warsaw - the Siekierkowski bridge in the south of the city. A third new bridge - the Północny Bridge ( North Bridge, officially Marie Curie Skłodowska- bridge ) - built 2009-2012 in traditional beam construction.
