Swiss European Air Lines is a Swiss airline based in Basel and based on the Zurich airport. It is a subsidiary of the Swiss - and thus also the Lufthansa - and leads on their behalf and brand identity European regional and commuter flights.

History

In May 2003, the Swiss was planning to spin off its regional fleet into a new subsidiary called Swiss Express to compete in the competition with the low cost airlines can. However, since this idea met with great resistance, was abandoned eventually to the establishment of the Swiss Express.

After the takeover of Swiss by Lufthansa German Airlines had been decided in March 2005, the leadership of the Swiss announced in October 2005 that the regional fleet, which consisted at that time of eight Embraer ERJ 145 and 18 Avro RJ100, to a new company should be outsourced called Swiss European Air Lines. This subsidiary received its operating license after all the winter timetable 2005 and was on 1 November 2005 with two flights departing at the same time on the route Zurich -Kloten, Geneva -Cointrin vv. begin operation. The phrase "vice versa" (German and vice versa) in the three Romance languages ​​commonly used, was chosen in the range name in abbreviated form to the equivalence of parts of the country - to emphasize - and especially the two home bases.

Between early 2008 and early 2009, Swiss European Air Lines operate an ancillary basis, the business aircraft of Lufthansa Private Jet. In the meantime, however, is responsible for these flights, the sister company Swiss Private Aviation.

In the summer of 2006, the Embraer ERJ 145 were the Avro RJ85 and ausgeflottet in summer 2007. The German Lufthansa AG as the owner of the Swiss signed in March 2009 a purchase agreement for 30 Bombardier CS100, which will replace the Avro RJ100 today - Swiss European Air Lines is thus in 2014 the world's first operator of this aircraft type.
