Swissint

Swissint is the competence center of the Swiss Army for operations abroad. Stationed is the competence center in Oberndorf bei Stans, Nidwalden.

Tasks

Swissint is the national superior command post for all peace-support operations abroad. She is responsible for the planning and leadership, recruitment, supervision and control of all personnel, training of individuals and quotas, the mission-related equipment of the soldiers, the logistics in foreign countries, financial planning and credit management, the appropriate public relations and the use of evaluation.

With about 280 officers, NCOs, soldiers and civilians Swissint carries more than twelve operations in Europe, Africa and Asia. With Swissint especially the ongoing mission in Kosovo since 1999 has been associated. The local Swisscoy makes an infantry company for security and provides with another company logistics services for the benefit of international partners. On behalf of the United Nations ( UN) and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe ( OSCE) military observers, staff and liaison officers or military advisers are available as individuals or small teams in operation.

The Centre of Excellence

The competence center is located in the barracks Wil in Oberndorf -Stans. Working there almost 20 permanent employees and a flexible number of project-related employees. Swissint reports directly to the Chief of the Operations Staff of the Army and is based on the policy objectives of the Federal Council and Parliament, and according to the instructions of the Chief of Army. The commander is a colonel in the general staff Fridolin Keller.

Training

The competence center Swissint in Stans is assumed the training center (AZ). This is also located on the military base at Wil Stans AZ is for mission-related training (EBA ) is responsible. About 20 professional and regular military train all members of the Swiss Army, which make a voluntary assignment abroad in the context of peacebuilding. All courses are structured according to the requirements and lessons learned from operations and adjusted continuously. The course program is wide-ranging and aimed at national and international, as well as to civilian and military users.

Swiss soldiers that are used for Peace Support Operations (PSO ), receive their education through the AZ Swissint. NATO has certified the AZ Swissint as Partnership for Peace Training and Education Center. The AZ Swissint offers several national and international courses for civilian and military participants. As the infrastructure of the weapons used, among other place in Stans -Oberdorf and the Camp Swissint, which can accommodate 180 people in around 200 containers.
