Sylvain Arend

Sylvain Julien Victor Arend ( born August 6, 1902 in Robelmont, Belgium, † February 18, 1992 ) was a Belgian astronomer.

Arends main area was the astrometry.

He discovered several comets, including the bright C/1956 R1 ( Arend -Roland ) and the periodic comets 49P/Arend-Rigaux and 50P/Arend.

In addition, Arend discovered 51 asteroids, including ( 1127 ) Mimi ( 1613 ) Smiley ( 1640) Nemo ( 1652) Hergé ( 2866 ) Hardy, the Amor asteroid (1916 ) Boreas and the Trojans ( 1583 ) Antilochus.

He also discovered a 1952 Nova in the constellation sign, the Nova Scuti 1952.
