Sylvain Luc

Sylvain Luc ( * 1965 in Bayonne ) is a French jazz guitarist.

Life

Luc studied violin and cello at the Conservatory of Bayonne and also took lessons in classical guitar. In Bayonne, he played early in his family groups ( with his brothers he took in 1974 and 1977 albums with Basque music on ) and then in your own local groups.

After moving to Paris, he accompanied as Georges Moustaki there chansonniers (1988 ), Philippe Leotard, Romain Didier, Catherine Lara (1993 ), the Argentine Jairo and Michel Jonasz. He also played bass in a trio in 1988 by accordionist Richard Galliano and with drummer Francis Lassus (Album " Piaia Naia " 1998).

1993 his first solo album " Piaia " (Basque trip). In 1994 he took up with guitarist Louis Winsberg " Petits Déjà " in a duet. In 1999 he formed with drummer André Ceccarelli and bassist Jean -Marc Japheth (with whom he had played as early as 1989 to 1992), the "Trio Sud" ( self-titled album in 2002 album " Sud" 2000 Dreyfus Jazz ). In the same year he played at the jazz festival of Marciac with Elvin Jones and 2000 with Wynton Marsalis.

From 2006 he regularly played in "String Quartet" with Didier Lockwood, Victor Bailey and Billy Cobham and in a duo with Biréli Lagrène, with whom he recorded the album " Duet " in 1999. In 2003, his solo album " Ambre " appeared on Dreyfus Jazz, 2006, his album " Joko " and others with Michel Portal and Jacky Terrasson. Together with Biréli Lagrène Luc put two shots before (1999 and 2009).

Awards

In 2008 he received the Django d' Or ( France) in the category " Established Musicians ", in 2010 the Prix Django Reinhardt as a French musician of the year.
