Sylvan (band)
Sylvan is an art-rock band from Hamburg.
Biography
Sylvan was founded in 1998 from the 1991 band Chameleon forth. The name is said to date back to the forest god Silvanus. After several attempts, came 1999, the first CD titled Deliverance on the market. A year later, the second album was released, entitled Encounters. 2002, the third album Artificial Paradise came on the market, followed by X - Rayed in 2004. Sylvan played at the end of 2005 Marillion as the opening act.
In 2006, two albums were recorded, representing the various forms of Sylvan. While a rather quiet concept album came with Posthumous Silence on the market, in which music and text to submit to a content line, so as to create an artistic oeuvre, the album was released in 2007 presets, with its predominantly shorter songs much catchier.
In July 2008, the first live DVD of Sylvan, which was launched on 1 September 2007 at the Hamburg Kampnagel appeared. It contains a recording of the complete Posthumous Silence- show. At the same time appeared the live double CD Leaving Backstage, containing songs from the DVD and the second played that evening set that represents a journey through all previous Sylvan albums. In August 2009, the long-awaited seventh studio album was released.
For Christmas Concert 2010 Sylvan presented the re-release their debut album Deliverance ago. In addition to an altered artwork and a revised version of A Fairytale Ending the second CD with a bonus track awaits. The Lie is 12 1/2 minutes and provides a new composition of previously unreleased material of the Deliverance - composition phase dar. This Sylvan worked consciously with former instruments, so that the song fits tonally in the other pieces of Deliverance.
On 27 January 2012, the band released a double album titled Sceneries. The concept album deals with the ups and downs of life and the human pursuit of happiness. After completion of the music each chapter was given to a member of the band as a godparent. Content and fine-tuning were determined from that moment on the respective band member.
Music style
The band describes their music as " powerful and complex sound with emotional depth ." The fourth album, entitled X - Rayed was published in 2004 and in the musical self-assessment of the band. The pieces include elements that are reminiscent of Pink Floyd, Genesis or Eloy. The music of Sylvan repeatedly shows bonds of varied styles. In reviews of the style is also compared with Neo -Prog or Progressive Metal.
