Sylvester Mazzolini

Silvester Mazzolini (* 1456 Priero, province of Cuneo, † 1523 in Rome ) was an Italian monk of the Dominican Order, who was also known under the name Prierias.

Life

Mazzolini grew up in Piedmont and completed his studies. Upon successful completion, he got a teaching position at the University of Bologna. Pope Leo X appointed him in 1514 to the chair of theology at the University of Rome La Sapienza.

Mazzolini published in 1515 a work on church doctrine and ethics, which was very popular. In 1518 he was with his " Dialogus de potestate Papae " one of the first who attacked Martin Luther. The font interpreted the views of the Roman Catholic Church through the drain. The answer Luther was being sarcastic.
